Instead, they screen applicants for referrals to partner programs in Portage County for assistance, including Operation Bootstrap. Referrals are not a guarantee of assistance. POSSIBLE CATEGORIES FOR REFERRAL INCLUDE: Food pantries; Rent, security deposit, and mortgage assistance; Utilities (gas, heat, and electric for applicants with a disconnection notice, and who have already gone through Energy Services); Clothing (may include work boots, underwear, and clothing vouchers); Diapers; Limited medical bill assistance; Prescription costs; Gas vouchers or bus fare; Furniture and appliances; Household goods (may include kitchenware, cleaning products, bedding, and towels, and may take the form of vouchers);  financial assistance to obtain ID cards, driver licenses, and birth certificates.
